Have you ever woke up and felt like you swallowed a ball of fire? Sore throat home remedies may be the answer you need.
We all have them from time to time, usually coinciding with allergy season or cold and flu season.
There’s not a whole lot the doctor can do for your sore throat, so why not take it into your own hands. Mix up a soothing herbal tea or try one of these many home remedies to gargle with.
Herbal Remedies for Sore Throat:
Marshmallow- Try marshmallow tea to soothe and coat your throat. To make: Take one tbsp dried root to one cup of boiling water. Let it steep for approx. 10 minutes and strain. Drink 3 cups daily.
Chammomile tea- This is a great relaxing tea, but is also great for irritated throats. Make a tea by adding 1-2 tsp. dried chamomile blossoms to a pint of boiling water. Add honey for taste.
Honey and Lemon tea- Honey and lemon just seem to go together like shoes and socks. The next time you feel a scratchy throat coming on, try mixing some lemon and honey in a cup of boiling water. Drink 2-3 cups daily. This one of the very soothing herbal remedies for sore throats.
Cayenne Pepper- Mix one tsp of vinegar, very small pinch of cayenne pepper, ¼ cup of lemon juice, 1tsp honey. Add all of this to 1 cup of hot water. Drink several cups a day till symptoms gone.
Ginger- Soak 3 tbsp of freshly grated ginger in a pint of hot water for 6-8 minutes. You may add some lemon juice if you like. Strain and drink this before bedtime. Ginger has anti-inflammatory, and anti-viral properties.
Home Remedies for Sore Throat:
Gargling something warm always seems to help relieve a raw burning throat. Try some of these home remedies next time.
Salt water- Mix two tablespoons of salt with a glass of warm water. You want the water as warm as you can stand it. Gargle this till gone. Gargle every 3-4 hours. This will help cut the phlegm in back of throat and reduces inflammation. This is one of my favorite sore throat home remedies.
Vinegar- Try one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a cup of warm water. Gargle and then swallow it. Finish it all. This is a good sore throat home remedy.
Post nasal drip- Keep nasal passages clear. If you don’t, this will drain down the back of throat making it sore and raw feeling.
Water- This should be a given, drink plenty of water daily. Try drinking 6-8 glasses a day. Drinking water helps to thin mucus in the back of throat which can cause a sore throat.
Listerine- Gargle with Listerine. This has antiseptic properties and helps kill bacteria.
I hope these remedies come in handy the next time you’re feeling a sore throat coming on.
